My Takeaways from a Manual Lymphatic Drainage course 9/20-21/24

I recently took a 12-hour MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) class, which focused on basics. It was very helpful, boosting my confidence with pressure and providing new sequences to use.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a technique to improve the flow of the lymph fluid through the vessels back toward the heart and to filter and cleanse the whole system for optimal working conditions.

My biggest takeaways were:

  • Certain nodes filter from particular vessels.

For example; the left Axilla (Armpit) supports the lower body drainage from feet, shins, thighs, hips, abs to

lower ribs. Unless the left Axilla transport capacity is dysfunctional under the chronic lymph load, to which the flow redirects to other nodes to be filtered out toward the heart a different way.

  • There is a standard lymph flow pattern.

  • MLD can increase the transport capacity by 10-20 times its normal rate of flow, with lasting effects of 48 hours.

I learned this first hand. My husband, Tim, and I went out on Sunday night, the 22nd, to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. Because it was a special restaurant and time we order a bottle of wine. I didn't think to much about it until I sipped about one glass and I began feeling an early onset of spaciness. It was very interesting. Tim was able to be greatly amused by it, as was I.

  • The pressure and overall technique utilized is very easy to do and it can be very relaxing.

During the class, receiving the technique from my partner, within 3 minutes my eye lids became very heavy. Not to mention during the face down portion I took a nap, I do not know how long I was out for, but not long enough that anyone suspected I was asleep.

I am so excited to explore and delve deeper into this lens of the body.

Its helpful to me, so I believe it can be supportive to many.
